DAVIES SPORTS GETS CROSS CURRICULAR AT THE EARLY YEARS & PRIMARY TEACHING EXHBITION SHOW Stand GE16
Davies Sports, leading sports and PE equipment supplier, will be hosting a comprehensive workshop at the Early Years & Primary Teaching exhibition on Friday 18th April 2008, demonstrating various ways to implement its ground-breaking Huff & Puff Scheme. Huff & Puff is a ready made solution to the Government’s five hours of PE per week recommendation.
Since the scheme was developed over ten years ago, Huff & Puff has been credited with revolutionising children’s lunch and break times. The exclusive scheme includes a kit full of equipment that encourages children to partake in activity before and after school, as well as during break-times. Davies Sports has further expanded the ground-breaking scheme for 2008 to include ‘The Cross Curricular Project’, ‘The Heart Line’ and ‘The Games Shop’.
The Cross Curricular Project is classroom based and uses parts of the science, maths and ICT curriculum to form a six-week learning programme, designed to teach how the body works. In addition, The Heart Line initiates the effective use of the school playground and encourages daily physical activity, while The Games Shop provides a wide range of activities for children to enjoy at lunch time.
Davies Sports is committed to providing a complete service to its customers and offers expert training to those schools looking to implement the scheme. Davies Sports will set up local workshops on request to advise local schools of the best kit for them based on their personal circumstances. During these workshops, Davies Sports will train teachers, lunch time assistants, or any other staff mentors at the workshops on how to address playground issues and implement the Huff & Puff scheme effectively in their own schools.
The workshop at the exhibition will provide attendees with a comprehensive overview of how the Huff & Puff range addresses common playground issues such as inclusion and bullying, with a structured playground managed by playground monitors. As the scheme is extremely flexible, the workshop will aim to provide ideas and suggestions which can be effectively implemented in any playground.
Davies Sports offers an inclusive sports range as well as equipment required for traditional and well established sports such as badminton, football and athletics.

PERFORMANCE BY INTACK PRIMARY SCHOOL
Stand EP41
230 pupils from Intack Primary School, Blackburn are celebrating! Special measures were lifted at the end of February after Ofsted inspectors found “improvement in all aspects of the school’s work.”
The recent inspection report particularly praised leadership and management at the school, guided by head teacher Linda McLanachan, who took over the reins after the school was deemed to be failing in March 2006. Also, the curriculum has been rated as good.
Deputy headteacher Fiona Hamriding feels that this is largely due to the partnership that has been forged between the school and education company, Unipace. Launched in May 2007 and led by former local authority Creativity and Arts Consultant, Elaine Sutton, Unipace has worked alongside the school in developing a more creative curriculum, in response to comments about lack of pupil motivation and engagement coupled with below average standards of achievement.
“Unipace has supported us in developing a well-organised, exciting, unique curriculum that is tailored specifically to the needs of our children, most of whom are from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The help we have received from Elaine, as our consultant, has been invaluable, enabling us to achieve and extend our vision. As a result, attendance has improved and raised standards are in evidence. The pupils are now keen to participate at school and they enjoy the whole learning experience we can now offer them,” said Mrs. Hamriding.
This has been demonstrated by the six proud youngsters chosen to sing at the TSL Special Needs North and Early Years Show at Manchester Central!
Having recently purchased a new stage and sound system from sister company Unistage, the children are becoming more used to having a platform on which to show off their praiseworthy talents! When asked if they would like to perform at the show, the response was an overwhelming “YES!”
The enthusiasm with which they sing the songs from Unipace CD resources ‘Rainbows or Stormclouds’, ‘Blast from the Past!’ and ‘Off with Her Head!’ is admirable and, as head teacher Miss McLanachan said, “It is great to be able to showcase our children’s talents at an event like the Education Show. We have a lot to celebrate and plenty to be proud of. The pupils representing Intack School are a credit to us and I’m confident we can build on our current successes in the future.”
They will be performing on Unistage Stand EP41 from 12 -12.30pm and 1.30pm – 2pm.
