          Meet inspirational athletes at this year’s TES Education 2009 exhibition TES Education 2009 will once again be wowing visitors on 2 & 3 October 2009 at The National Hall, London Olympia with a one-stop-shop of educational resources, CPD training sessions and expert advice. A must for anyone with an interest in early years, primary or secondary education, the show will offer a Healthy Schools zone, inspiring athletes, and 6 streams of focused CPD training sessions on current issues that matter, such as reaching hard-to-teach students.
Helping pupils lead healthy lifestyles…
The Healthy Schools zone is designed to help students engage with healthy lifestyles.
Visitors can discover free resources from dozens of leading names in sports, nutrition and wellness, including ASDA Sporting Chance, the School Food Trust, UK Athletics and Youth Sport Trust. 26 exhibitors will offer expert advice and support to those in the teaching industry to come up with new and exciting ways to bring the healthy living message to classrooms.
Visitors will receive top tips from the Healthy Schools stage, with dynamic speakers and free sessions running throughout the event. There will be an opportunity to meet inspirational athletes, including Olympic gold-medallist swimmer Duncan Goodhew, captain of England's Woman’s Cricket Team Charlotte Edwards, and cricketer Devon Malcolm.
Olympic champion, Duncan Goodhew is one of the most respected and instantly recognisable British swimming athletes. After swimming competitively in America at North Carolina State University, Duncan captained the Great Britain swimming team at the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games where he won the gold in the 100 metres breaststroke and bronze in the 4x100 metre medley relay. He was awarded an MBE for services to sport in 1983. In 1994 he helped to create the Youth Sport Trust, aiming to build a brighter future for young people by enhancing the quality of their physical education and sporting opportunities. Duncan is also an Ambassador for Premier Sport, the UK’s largest provider of sports & PE instruction for children of primary school age.
Former fast bowler Devon Malcolm along with Charlotte Edwards will be presenting a feature on cricket in schools on the Healthy Schools stage at 14.45 on Saturday 3 October. Both Devon & Charlotte will be available on the Johnjac Cricket Supplies stand throughout the show to discuss how the Concertina could benefit schools and encourage active participation in playing cricket and will also be giving schools an opportunity to receive a coaching session with captain of England's Woman’s Cricket Team Charlotte Edwards.
Charlotte Edwards was the youngest player to ever play for England when she made her debut in 1995. She won the ICC Woman's player of the year 2008 at the ICC awards ceremony in Dubai and has been short listed for this year 2009 award in South Africa. She led the England team in the 2009 World Cup in Australia, scoring a half century and taking a career best 4 for 37 in the Super Six victory over New Zealand before captaining the side to a 4 wicket victory over the same opposition in the World Cup Final in Sydney.
Devon Malcolm former England fast bowler, joined the England team in 1987, playing 40 test matches, he is best known for taking 9 wickets for 57 against South Africa at the Oval in 1994. Devon is now a Professional Cricketer’s Association ambassador and as a Director of JohnJac Cricket Supplies has helped design the companies Concertina cricket net system which will be available at the show.
