How do we stop the decline in handwriting standards?
Widespread use of text messages and computers for communication means that traditional handwriting is in decline. Less and less time is being made available for pupils to learn proper handwriting skills and the correct technique for joining up letters. Problems then arise when children try to join up their letters, as movement faults can not be corrected by themselves.
If one of your key issues is the need to tackle handwriting problems, Morrells Handwriting is guaranteed to help. You'll find our resources simple to use and ideal for:
· Lessons · Homework · To extend gifted and talented pupils · As further work for early finishers · Support for less confident learners
Our books help pupils understand how to form and join letters correctly. All of our exercises are differentiated allowing you to match pupils' individual needs. Links to the Literacy strategy revise spellings, grammatical skills and sentence work, giving you a resource that will easily slot into your existing plans, saving you time searching for, and planning handwriting worksheets.
What's more our resources compliment existing handwriting schemes and are child friendly, fun to use and will engage those hard-to-reach pupils whose bad habits are difficult to break.
Following the successful launch in 2008 of Morrells Right Start, Handwriting Made Easy, Copymasters Books 1 and 2, we are launching Morrells Handwriting Made Easy Workbooks.
New for 2009:
Workbook 1 - Letter Formation, uses step-by-step structured handwriting exercises to show the correct letter formation in readiness to join letters. Suitable for pupils at any age who may need to return to separate letters and basic stroke related exercises to correct movement faults.
Workbook 2 - Joining Letters, revises the formation of letters and introduces step-by-step progression from separate to joined letters. Suitable for pupils at any age who may need to correct movement faults which affect their joins.
Workbook 3 - Joining Revision, revises the joining process through spelling activities which include all the High Frequency words listed in the new Primary National Strategy, Letters and Sounds.
Workbook 4 - Spellings and Grammar, revises the joining process through spelling patterns and grammatical skills. Progresses to a level using a more mature font to show how flexible, fully joined-up handwriting works. Includes handwriting practice with plurals, connectives and verb tenses.
Workbook 5 - Focus on Grammar, revises the joining process through grammatical skills. A series of challenging exercises provides a range of grammatical activities that will stretch any child. Includes handwriting practice with homophones, speech marks and apostrophes.
Workbook 6 - Focus on Vocabulary, revises the joining process through the use of complex sentences. Includes handwriting practice with words to use instead of went and said.
' Give a child the right equipment and they can finish the task! The right equipment...handwriting, spellings, punctuation and grammar.'
